William and Mary Entertainment Center or Linen Press
This entertainment center is designed after a William & Mary linen press. While it incorporates many authentic William & Mary construction components, it is flexible enough to accommodate today’s media needs. It is the perfect blend of style and function.
This piece could be ordered with doors mounted on fully retractable slides for an unobstructed view of a television. As an alternative, the doors could be mounted on traditional hinges which will enable the doors to swing open. The traditional hinges would be appropriate if this piece would be used as a linen press.
This piece is made with mahogany and walnut as the primary woods and poplar as the secondary wood. The case is made from solid mahogany, the drawer fronts are made with figured mahogany with walnut inlay, and the drawer boxes and drawer frames are made from poplar. The back consists of ship-lapped and beaded mahogany strips.
The drawer boxes have dovetail joinery for the front and back with a raised panel bottom. The drawers slide on full mortis and tenon frames that provide a very traditional feel and look.
The finish is a hand applied and hand rubbed shellac, my preferred finish. Shellac applied this way produces a warm glow and brings out the natural beauty of the wood.
